I found an axle. It came out
of an 85 pickup. Its in decent shape. I got it pretty cheap.
Its in pieces, but I have to tear it down and rebuild it anyway. I do
have to buy some small parts for it though, aside from a rebuild kit.
It's missing all the cone washers from the locking hub, has no
drain/fill/breather plugs, a few studs on the housing for the 3rd member,
all of the bolts on the locking hub, both the 54mm axle adjusting nut and
54mm axle nut, all the spacers and washers in the spindle, nuts for the 4
bolts on the knuckle where the steering arm bolts to, and, um, I think
that's it. Otherwise everything else is there. Not bad for $115
I don't think. I also am going to buy some FJ40 vented rotors and swap
over my V6 calipers. I could probably swap over all the cone washers,
bolts, and axle nuts from my IFS. Just depends on how much all these
parts will cost. I still need to tear the knuckles down and clean
everything up to see what else I'm missing. Here are some pics
